Why All Of Your Past Decluttering Efforts Have Failed

Sharing is caring!

How many times in the past have your efforts at decluttering failed? Having a clutter-free home was my New Year’s Resolution year after year. And then, year after year, I failed. I tried every method out there to get the clutter under control…Flylady, KonMarie, you name it, I tried it.

But I never got very far, or if I was able to get a room or area decluttered, it didn’t take long at all before the space was cluttered and messy all over again.

I finally stumbled on the method that I have (successfully) used now for close to five years to keep my home clutter-free…even with ten children!

So, let’s talk about why your current methods of decluttering might be failing…

Reason #1 For Decluttering Failure…

Your decluttering project felt too big.

How many times have you had a gigantic project to complete…and you just.couldn’t.finish.it. Or maybe…you couldn’t even force yourself to start it.

When a project (any kind of project!) feels too big and overwhelming, the majority of us just shut down. We may be able to force ourselves to tackle it for an hour…maybe even two…

But inevitably, most of us will throw in the towel WAY before the project is actually finished.

I’ve seen this happen in my own home when I set a goal to get a full room decluttered in a weekend. So many times, I would set a goal on Friday to completely declutter one room of my home…and I would never even get started.

It didn’t sound fun, the task felt impossible, I had no idea how long it would actually take to accomplish the goal…it was pointless to even start.

Reason #2 For Why Your Decluttering Has Failed…

You couldn’t find time.

When you think about decluttering, it’s the whole house, right? No one wants to just have one room decluttered…we want it ALL! But decluttering your whole home is a GIGANTIC task!

When I was trying to figure out how to get my home decluttered, all I could think was “This is going to take forever!!!”. And I then immediately lost interest in the project.

My schedule was already stretched WAY too thin. There was no way that I could squeeze in a whole-house decluttering marathon.

I can’t even watch TV shows like Tidying Up with Marie Kondo…because the mere thought of doing a whole-house project like that is immediately de-motivating because I just don’t have the time.

Do you have time to get your whole home decluttered in one fell swoop?

Reason #3 For Why Your Decluttering Has Failed…

You can’t maintain it.

Let’s just say (for argument’s sake…) that you have been able to accomplish the huge undertaking of getting the whole house decluttered…

What then?

I’ll tell you what. Now you have to maintain your decluttered home, which is almost as daunting a task as decluttering it in the first place.

It’s like going to the plastic surgeon and having liposuction…having 50 pounds of fat sucked out of your body, but then you have to maintain that fat loss, otherwise…you’ll either be right back at the plastic surgeon’s office, or you will accept that you don’t have the habits in place to maintain the loss.

Doing a whole-home decluttering all at once is very similar, in that, you won’t have the habits in place to maintain the loss of clutter.

So what’s a person to do?

It’s time to start decluttering the Freedom Moms’ way. Just a little bit every day, in a systematic way, that covers the whole house every single month.

Month after month, you will see more and more decluttering progress in your home, but you will also be building the habits needed to maintain your progress. Before you know it, you will have a completely decluttered home, that you can effortlessly maintain in just a few minutes per day.

Now that sounds like Freedom!
